First Contact (2014) Reading Order

Expelled from their native Earth 2 via a Boom Tube, Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) and Robin (Helena Wayne) were cast into Prime Earth – the mainstream reality in the DC Multiverse. So far they’ve avoided running into this world’s counterparts of Batman and Superman, but that’s all about to change!

Crossover: This is a standard five-part crossover that includes an Annual tie-in.

Must Reads: In the Fallout section, story arcs/issues marked with a ✔ are essential reading.

Anthology Issues: When an issue contains multiple stories, the relevant story is denoted with square brackets. For example, [2/5] refers to the second story of the five stories in that issue, so you don’t need to read the other four.

Title, Issue Number & Synopsis
World’s Finest Annual #1 [1/3]
Years ago, on Earth 2, the rookie Robin (Helena Wayne) helped her father, Batman, shut down a brothel. Batman showed concern over Robin’s ruthlessness.
World’s Finest Annual #1 [2/3]
While Superman went on a secret mission, Kara Zor-El made the most of his absence by hitting a club. She met Ken, the son of Gamorra’s leader. When the WorldGov tower exploded, Kara investigated as Supergirl. But she didn’t focus enough on Ken who was killed by falling rubble.
World’s Finest Annual #1 [3/3]
Supergirl turned to Helena Wayne for comfort over Ken’s death. Robin and Supergirl tracked down the super behind the explosion – Fury, daughter of Wonder Woman. Supergirl’s anger took over, but Wonder Woman arrived and stopped the fight. Fury made her escape, heading through a Boom Tube to Apokolips.
World’s Finest #19
Now, on Prime Earth, ‘Karen Starr’ (aka Earth 2’s Kara Zor-El – also going by ‘Power Girl’ in this reality) is struggling with her fluctuating powers and is trying to rebuild Starr Industries. She reluctantly decides to turn to this reality’s Superman for help. Meanwhile, Huntress has a similar idea and turns to the Batman of Prime Earth, only for him to trap her in the Batcave

Title, Issue Number & Synopsis
Batman/Superman #8
After an explanation and a series of tests, Batman agrees to help his ‘daughter’ from another reality. But Superman is also drawn to the situation, and Huntress quickly realises the Batman and Superman of Prime Earth aren’t exactly friends. Despite this, Batman figures the island of New Gamorra is the source of Power Girl’s problems. And the island’s ruler, Kaizen Gamorra looks exactly like Ken Gamorra of Earth 2. On New Gamorra, Batman and Huntress learn Power Girl is about to detonate. Power Girl expends an energy surge, but it spreads to Superman…
World’s Finest #20
Huntress is left defending the powerless Superman from a superhuman from the Army of Gamorra. Power Girl and Batman head to New Gamorra. Power Girl meets ‘Ken’ who apologies for the effect his nannites have had and promises her a way home, but then sics the superhuman Gamorrans on her – all ‘made’ from her stolen DNA…
Batman/Superman #9
Batman & Superman’s memories of their forgotten past interactions with their Earth 2 counterparts begin to return (see CROSS WORLD, 2013). As Power Girl expends energy, Kaizen Gamorra taps into it to open the portal to Earth 2. Toymaster sends Superman a suit of armour that expel the nanites from him before he uses it to absorb the negative energy emanating from the portal. Huntress and Power Girl have a chance to go home…
World’s Finest #21
Huntress and Power Girl witness the destruction taking place on Earth 2. Kaizen Gamorra reveals the power granted to him from Apokolips, but Power Girl just hurls him through the portal. Brutaal (the corrupted Superman – see THE DARK AGE, 2013-2014) emerges from the portal with a power-boosted Kaizen Gamorra and a cadre of Parademons, urging Power Girl to come home. The heroes push them back and Huntress closes the portal. On Earth 2, Brutaal burns Kaizen Gamorra alive.
