Doctor Doom has faced challenges to his throne in the past, but now his biggest challenge will come in the unexpected form of… himself?
In the event of his own demise, Doom prepares a stand-in who will, for all intents and purposes, become āDoctor Doomā – even with their own memories and personality overwritten by Doom’s. Thus ensuring Victor von Doom will always sit upon the throne of Latveria. The problem comes when Doom is believed to be dead and soon finds himself having to move a successor who believes Vic to be the impostor!
As if his own death and rebirth and the loss of his throne weren’t enough to keep the metal-fisted monarch occupied, Doctor Doom is transported to Battleworld, attains ultimate power (again!) and joins the Prime Movers – a group of super-villains intent on killing all costumed heroes.
Doom shares this reading order with Kristoff Vernard who is also Doom for this period. Doom will go solo again in the next entry…
Return to our CHARACTER READING ORDER INDEX for more chronological guides!
I’d like to thank the Unofficial Handbook of Marvel Comics Creators, the Marvel Chronology Project, the Marvel Database and the Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe for their invaluable assistance.
Must Reads: Story arcs marked with a ā are must-read stories from this time period, along with any key related stories and often-forgotten tales that are worth a read.
Chronology: Every appearance of Doctor Doom from this period is included in chronological order, laying out their timeline rather than just the order the issues were released.
Anthology Issues: When an issue contains multiple stories, the relevant story is denoted with square brackets. For example, [2/5] refers to the second story of the five stories in that issue, so you don’t need to read the other four.
Spoilers: The issue/story overviews may include spoilers, so be warned!
