A few thousand years ago, the Guardians of the Universe created the Manhunters to protect the universe. But these robotic cops proved to be unstable and turned against their creators. Realising their mistake, the Guardians formed and empowered the Green Lantern Corps, with representatives from each sector of space being selected as a Green Lantern – a morally-upright and fearless force for good, acting on behalf of the Guardians. But the Manhunters were still out there in space, preparing for a strike against their creators that could impact the prophesied Chosen who would take Earth into a new Millennium!
But who are the Chosen? How will the Guardians protect them since their recent abandonment of the planet Oa. And what connection do the android Manhunters have to the costumed crime-fighting Manhunters of World War II?
‘Millennium’ is the second major event in DC Comics‘ New Earth continuity, though it relies quite heavily on stories established before the reality-altering events of CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS (1985-1986). While the New Guardians series that spins out of it is far from required reading and the Chosen concept quickly fades from memory, it’s a difficult event to skip when the crossovers that tie into it and so ingrained into the event itself.
Major Event: With a primary mini-series and numerous related tie-ins, Millennium is considered to be a major event.
Minor Crossover: The tie-in issues building up to Millennium in Justice League International, the Flash and Captain Atom are all linked more closely to each other than the main event itself – almost like an additional sub-crossover.
