Rage of the Red Lanterns (2008-2009) Reading Order

Years ago, the Manhunters massacred the people of Sector 666 and Atrocitus was stranded on the planet Ysmault by Sinestro. Now, Atrocitus – the first of the Red Lantern Corps – prepares to take his revenge on the Guardians of Oa and Sinestro himself. Those who were wronged by the Sinestro Corps will become rage-fuelled Red Lanterns…

Ice has been visiting Guy Gardner on Oa for a while as they focus on rebuilding their relationship. But they have a falling out. When Mongul kills the male member of a newlywed couple, the Star Sapphire’s recruit the widow Miri Riam of Lartnec. Kyle Rayner and Soranik Natu lead the search for the missing children of the Green Lantern Corps. Ash Formanta seeks out the Anti-Monitor’s corpse for the Scarred Guardian. The Guardians order Guy Gardner, Arisia and Sodam Yat to escort them on a diplomatic mission to Zamaron

Ash finds part of the Anti-Monitor’s armour on a trail that leads to Sector 666 where Atrocitus sends out red rings to recruit for his Red Lantern Corps. The Controllers prepare to enter the Vega System to obtain the Orange Light. The Guardians’ intention to hold Sinestro’s execution on Korugar is leaked by the Scarred Guardian. The Sinestro Corps move in on the Green Lanterns as they escort Sinestro through space. The Red Lanterns tear through Green and Yellow to get to Sinestro, spitting their acidic blood. Former Green Lantern Laira Omoto fires her red ring at Hal Jordan and his allies, depowering their rings and leaving them powerless in space. But a lantern in blue called Saint Walker emerges and charges them up to 200%…!

Guy Gardner accompanies the Oans to Zamaron. The Scarred Guardian orders Sodam Yat to tap into the Ion power of the Yamarons try to take them prisoner. While the Guardians and Zamarons argue, Guy notices Fatality, Karu-Sil and Kiriazis of the Sinestro Corps are being held as crystallised prisoners. Against orders, Kyle and Soranik head to Sector 1111. Amnee Pree rushes to save the now-orphaned son of two Green Lanterns from Kryb. The Guardians enact a new law that forbids physical relationships and love between Green Lanterns…

Kryb spits her formula at Kyle, Soranik, KT21 and Matoo Pree, allowing her to mentally manipulate them. The pregnant Amnee Pree brutally attacks Kryb and uses the four mind-controlled Lanterns – including Amnee’s husband – to defeat her.

Saint Walker’s Blue Lantern Ring is powered by hope. He takes Hal Jordan to Odym, home of the Blue Lantern Corps, where former-Guardians Ganthet and Sayd now reside among them. They want Hal to save Sinestro and lead the Blue Lanterns. On Zamaron, Fatality wakes as a Star Sapphire and immediately seeks John Stewart. Sinestro has been captured and taken to Ysmault. Atrocitus promises to wage a War of Light against the other corps. And now they know who Sinestro’s daughter is…

Kyle Rayner and his fellow Lanterns break free of Kryb’s control. Kyle and KT21’s battle with Kryb is soon joined by the Star Sapphire Miri Riam. Soranik helps Amnee through labour with her husband, bringing their son into the universe. Kryb kills KT21. The Giuardians intimate the new law, so Amnee and Matoo quit the Corps. Theirs and numerous other rings return to Oa as hundreds of Lanterns quit. Miri takes Kryb back to Zamaron after encouraging Kyle and Soranik to find love with each other. Mongul heads to Daxam

Hal Jordan falls into a trap on Ysmault as he’s surrounded by Red Lanterns. Atrocitus tells him he’ll turn against the Guardians when they take his greatest love from him. The Sinestro Corps arrive and free Sinestro. Saint Walker and Warth land on Ysmault and recharge Hal’s ring. Sinestro kills Laira when she attacks Hal. The rage he feels towards Sinestro results in Laira’s Red Lantern Ring jumping to Hal, transforming him into a Red Lantern…

Hal Jordan is torn between the pull of his Green and Red Power Rings and has created a chair that will enact Sinestro’s death sentence. Atrocitus realises Blue Power Rings don’t work unless they’re in the presence of an active Green Power Ring. Saint Walker puts a Blue Power Ring on Hal Jordan which destroys his Red Ring. The Sinestro Corps return to Qward, though some Corps members have remained with Mongul’s leadership. Sinestro heads to Korugar to find his daughter. The Controllers arrive on Daxam, looking to claim the Orange Power. The voice of Larfleeze warns them off. Carol realises Hal Jordan and Jillian ‘Cowgirl’ Pearlman are sleeping together, attracting the attention of the Zamarons…
Green Lantern #38 [2/2]
The scarred Guardian heads beneath Oa where the Book of the Black is hidden. She looks into the futures of John Stewart and Hal Jordan. After the battle with the Orange Lanterns, John Stewart sees Fatality as a Star Sapphire. It seems Carol Ferris may be a Star Sapphire again, too. Scar also sees Hal joining forces with Sinestro, Sentinel (Alan Scott) a prisoner of the Guardians with Torquemada and Mordru, and the rise of Black Hand.
