Werewolf by Night Reading Order, 1972-Present: Jack Russell

Gerry Conway claims he didn’t consciously name the human alter ego of the Werewolf By Night after a breed of dog, but Jack Russell was the name of the man aflicted with the curse who became part of the Marvel Universe in 1972. Initially, his stories tended ro revolve around him searching for a cure for his family curse in time to save his sister, Lissa Russell, from experiencing the same transformations (though she’d later end up having a daughter whose messed up timeline suggests Lissa gave birth before her teens).

Jack’s control over the Werewolf has varied over the years, but he’s never found an actual cure. Instead, he’s encountered numerous other Marvel Universe characters in his adventures and been a member of teams like the Night Shift, the Legion of Monsters and the Legion of Night. His stories have led to the birth of other Marvel concepts and characters such the the Darkhold, Tigra, Moon Knight and Vampire by Night.
