Head to our Many Armours of Iron Man Index for more!

Tony Stark was inspired to build the all-black Model 07 armour when his Space Armour (Model 5) proved too easy to detect on a mission to Roxxon Space Station. The suit utilises electronic countermeasure jamming, a number of field distortion options and cooler boot jets to avoid heat-detection. Comes complete with chunky camera on a wobbly arm for those extra blurry shots from behind enemy lines.

While this Iron Man suit hasn’t made that many appearances (or maybe it did and we just didn’t notice it), it’s had some notable moments in the spotlight. It’s often referred to as the Stealth Armour or Stealth Armour MK I.

I loved the debut of the Silver Centurion suit, when I was a kid. LOVED it! Iron Man Amour Model 8 felt like such a very different look, even though part of the change was a simple switch from gold to silver elements. But the build-up to the showdown with the Iron Monger was a fantastic way to bring Tony Stark back to the suit after a long time away…

This suit had an upgraded uni-beam and repulsers, as well as new weapons such as a tractor beam, variator rays, cutting lasers, a heat lance and electric shock capabilities. For defence, the suit had a short-term force-field, firefighting freons, laser attack refractors and energy absorption. The amour could also blend into the background with a hologram-based chameleon effect.

With the Silver Centurion destroyed by the heavily-armoured Firepower in the ARMOR WARS (1987-1988) storyline, Tony Stark builds himself the Iron Man Armour Model 9. At the time, ‘Iron Man’ was Stark’s secret identity while he pretended the armour was piloted by his bodyguard. The new suit of armour gave Tony the opportunity to make amends with the Avengers and SHIELD. Allowing him to pretend there was a new bodyguard under the armour…

The new armour – sometimes referred to as the Neo-Classic armour – added anti-intrusion devices to prevent further theft of Stark technology. Tony also added a battle-tracking computer, a universal translator, a hyperwave generator, an energy shield and a cybernetic probe to link to other systems. It was later adapted to Tony’s spinal injury caused when he was shot by Kathy Dare.
