Thanos was born one of the Titanians, later revealed to be the peaceful offshoot of the Eternals of Earth who lived in their perfect little society on one of Saturn’s moons (though the origin of the Titanians in this story is more mythological). Thanos, however, wasn’t like his father Mentor or his brother Eros. Thanos wanted to make weapons. Thanos wanted to kill!
So Mentor banished Thanos from the Eternals of Titan. Seeking vengeance and power, the so-called ‘Mad Titan’ built himself an army and attacked the Titanians. Mentor appealed to his super-powerful father, the abstract, god-like Kronos, who created one superhuman being called Drax the Destroyer from part of the Earth itself and sent him to eliminate Thanos. But Drax met with defeat and was taken prisoner by Thanos. The desperate Destroyer sent out a signal for help…
Aside from the Avengers, Thanos’ actions will all heavily impact another hero, Captain Marvel (the heroic member of the alien Kree originally known as Mar-Vell), who shares his space in the positive matter universe with Rick Jones. When Marv fights on Earth, Rick finds himself in the Negative Zone, until the two switch places so Rick can try to live a normal life!
This epic ’70s tale from Marvel Comics introduces a whole host of characters and concepts to the Marvel Universe!
