Wonder Woman Reading Order, 2011-2016: The New 52 Era

DC Comics’ decision to relaunch their universe in 2011 met with some controversy. Despite the backlash from some fans, the New 52 relaunch included some absolute gems – one of which was Wonder Woman’s new series by Brian Azzarello and Bernard Chiang which took the character in a direction we’d never seen before. Even the Olympian pantheon had a fresh, modernised look that made you realise the old New Earth versions probably hadn’t washed their togas in millennia.

While much of this arc was undone and the ‘reality’ of it called into question – initially with the issues that immediately followed Wonder Woman #35, before receiving a no-holds-barred redo by Greg Rucka with the DC REBIRTH initiative in 2016, the Azzarello/Chiang era of Wonder Woman is still one of the most popular interpretations of the character and has been collected in numerous different formats.

With that in mind, this entry in the ‘Wonder Woman Reading Order’ series (the first so far, but go with it), only includes the tales from 2011-2016, after FLASHPOINT and before DC REBIRTH. That saves all the mess of what did and didn’t ‘happen’ and you can treat the next stage in her chronology as many of us did when it was released – as another new era.

Aside from her solo ongoing title, Wonder Woman featured alongside the rest of the Justice League in the series penned by Geoff Johns’ and a slew of outstanding artists. And her relationship was Superman in that title is explored further in Superman/Wonder Woman – the duo’s regular team-up book. With a peppering of notable guest appearances across other New 52 titles, this is one of the strongest eras for Diana of Themyscira!

A huge thank you to the DC Wiki and the DCU Guide for the assist!

Must Reads: Story arcs marked with a ✔ are must-read stories from this time period, along with any key related stories and often-forgotten tales that are worth a read.

Chronology: Every appearance of Wonder Woman from this period is included in chronological order, laying out their timeline rather than just the order the issues were released.

Anthology Issues: When an issue contains multiple stories, the relevant story is denoted with square brackets. For example, [2/5] refers to the second story of the five stories in that issue, so you don’t need to read the other four.

Spoilers: The issue/story overviews may include spoilers, so be warned!
